Illinois State University is committed to providing a secure and welcoming campus environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. As such, we encourage all members of our University community to report student behavior that is significantly out of character, causes alarm, is unhealthy, and/or is potentially dangerous. Working groups of skilled and committed Illinois State University professionals seek to intervene and assist students before a regular pattern of behavior develops and the level of concern about behaviors exhibited reaches crisis level. In order to do this work effectively, everyone is to report such behaviors as early as possible.
Reports that include bias-related incidents will be referred to the Inclusive Community Response Team. Bias incidents can be spoken or written, or appear as symbols, signs, threats, or actions performed in person or through electronic means (e.g. email, social media). They include, but are not limited to, microaggressions (these are seemingly normal interactions that convey demeaning messages towards disenfranchised group members), bullying, vandalism, destruction of private or public property, harassment, and expressions of discrimination or hate. One thing that all bias-related incidents have in common is that they have an adverse impact on learning for Illinois State University students.
Reports that include serious change in the quality of the student's work, excessive absences from class, exaggerated and inappropriate emotional responses, disruptive behavior, threats to harm themselves or others, etc. will be referred to the Redbird Care Team. Students exhibiting behaviors where concern is raised about their personal, physical, and/or emotional well-being should be reported as soon as the behaviors are noticed regardless of severity.
Imminent threats and emergencies should be immediately reported to 911 and/or the Illinois State University Police Department at 309-438-8631. If you have any questions about this form, please contact the Dean of Students Office during regular business hours at 309-438-2008.
